As President Trump continues his design for American imperialism, the pursuit of new frontiers for
territorial gain comes into focus as it has for other leaders in their pursuit of historical greatness.
Greatness has an ingredient known as land mass. That, along with other key ingredients, is one of the
reasons for the quest of Greenland. Greenland is just over three times the size of Texas.( Texas has
268,597 square miles. Greenland has 836,000 square miles.)
About 80% of Greenland is covered with ice. Underneath that ice are vast amounts of rare earth minerals,
with 1.5 million tons of proven reserves making it the 8 th largest global source. However, with advanced
mining and extraction capabilities and desire, that number could rise to 36 million tons, a mind-boggling
2,400% increase. Imagine the economic opportunity that would create. Move over Alaska pipeline. Move
over OPEC.
Greenland has been owned by the Danes since 1721, and was granted “domestic” autonomy in 1979.
Foreign affairs, protection abilities, and other key elements of nationhood still reside within the Kingdom
of Denmark.
