Talk about diversity, enlightenment, and inclusion (a/k/a DEI): We have it all here! This time of year is usually very picturesque, with warm temperatures and many smiles. Let’s add yours to the mix.

By the way, a light lunch of diverse food and drink is included. Since IT IS Washington, DC we also include a list of specialty restaurants – that is country-specific – that you may want to try on your own.

WE DON´T DO DIABETES WALK

REGISTRATION ENDS ON 5/15

The 2-mile walks are held on alternate Saturdays from 9:30-11 am EVERY MONTH!

Why did Empire Capital & Consulting Corp. start this walk? Because I care and WE can! Empire Capital is fully committed to being a superior corporate citizen via helping to improve the communities that we operate in.

A study by the CDC states that, “according to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, West Virginia has the highest adult rate of diabetes at 16.2%. Nine of the 10 states with the highest type 2 diabetes rates are in the South. A record high number of Americans—40%, or more than 100 million adults—are living with diabetes or pre-diabetes according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Without significant changes, as many as 30% of people with pre-diabetes will go on to develop type 2 diabetes.”

I find that very disconcerting. So, because I believe ALL LIVES MATTER every day… not just when a white cop kills a black guy, I want black people to live like their lives matter EVERYDAY! However, it is hard to do that when we keep killing ourselves with this diabetes epidemic from the cradle to the grave. Yes, ALL  LIVES MATTER, but this disease disproportionately impacts blacks and Latinos more so than other groups. Yet, it is rarely discussed on the news channels, the pastor doesn’t tell his/her congregation to stop eating so much and so poorly (being careful not to offend the collection plate), and politicians are  cricket-quiet on this national health issue… so I ask, WWJD?

Bringing awareness to the health issue is not enough. We must actively help our communities become better via assisting them in active prevention and management of the disease so that our communities, customers, and clients do better and live better.

Walking groups have already formed in your area. The 2-mile walks are held on alternate Saturdays from 9:30-11 am. Meet new friends that are concerned about our health just as you are. Learn to make great meals for you and your family in less than thirty minutes. HEALTHY food recipes are available.  One critical ingredient is missing: Y-0-U! We need YOU  to actively participate in helping to make this a better world NOW. Contact us now for information on how we can help improve your health… and your financial condition now. For more information, call us at 267-581-5993.

You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are age 45 or older, have a family history of diabetes, or are overweight or have obesity. Diabetes is more common in people who are African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander. C’mon out and let’s stop a silent killer: Because WE CARE!
